Year 3 - Chestnut & Redwood Classes
Welcome to Year 3
In Chestnut Class the teaching is shared between Mrs Matyjasik at the beginning of the week and Mrs Bohin from Wednesday.
In Redwood Class the teacher is Miss Painter.Mrs Pedder is the Learning Support Assistant for both classes.
At the start of the school day we encourage all children in Year 3 to come into class by themselves in the morning.
Children in Chestnut and Redwood classes can enter and be dismissed via the steps and fire doors leading to Chestnut Class.
School begins at 8.45am and finishes at 3.15pm each day.
Every child will be given their own levelled reading book and reading record which will be frequently checked by the class teacher. We encourage you to read as much as possible with your children at home, talking together about what you read. Please feel free to record any information in your child's reading record.
Across the school, reading books are levelled using a colour coded system. Within Year 3, we keep a wide selection of books in each classroom. We encourage the children to change their own books independently.
Each week your child will be heard read in a guided read group with a member of staff. We also try to hear the children read independently as often as we can. Please ensure that your child brings their reading book and book bag into school every day.
Year 3 have their outdoor PE lesson on a Monday afternoon.Chestnut Class have their indoor PE session on a Wednesday afternoon and Redwood on a Friday afternoon.
Please ensure that your child’s PE kit includes a t-shirt, shorts and a pair of plimsolls or trainers. During the colder months we encourage the children to bring in a pair of jogging bottoms, a jumper, gloves and a hat to keep them warm.
Please ensure that your child has their PE kit available in school at all times.
Water Bottles & Snacks
We are proud to have achieved a healthy school award and as part of this we encourage all children in Key Stage 2 to bring a healthy snack of either fruit or vegetables to eat at break time.
Children should bring in their own, labelled, water bottle which they have access to throughout the day.
Within Year 3 your children will receive two lots of home learning a week, Spellings and Maths, which we encourage them to practice and complete at home. In addition to this, the children in year 3 and 4 will be set a project related to our topic.
Spellings are issued on a termly basis. Each week spellings follow a common spelling pattern focus as well as also including words from the statutory Y3 spelling list.
Spellings are checked on a Wednesday morning for both classes.
The children in Year 3 will receive a booklet of maths work consisting of 1 sheet per week related to what the children will be learning in school. Please note that after parent feedback Term 3 homework is differentiated. Please only complete one booklet!
We are always grateful for parent helpers within our Year 3.
If you can spare an afternoon to hear some children read or help with some class cooking, when needed, please don’t hesitate to let me know. All classroom helpers will need to have a DBS check which can be carried out via the office.
We thoroughly enjoy taking the children off site to enhance their learning.
Please look out for the termly newsletter that will inform you of any future trip and activities.
